9. AI and Machine Learning
Vehicle Identification Technology
RevvRadar uses AI and machine learning services to identify vehicles from photos. Here's what happens:
- • Photos are sent to our AI service provider for analysis
 - • No personal information is included with images
 - • Images are processed and immediately discarded
 - • We receive vehicle details (make, model, year, trim, weight, torque, value)

Content Safety
AI automatically filters inappropriate content including harassment, hate speech, explicit material, and dangerous content. Safety violations are logged for analytics but not exposed to users.
10. Location Data and Privacy Protection
Location Services Overview
Location access is optional but recommended for full functionality. With location enabled, you can share captures on the public map and discover nearby events. Without location, you can still capture vehicles privately—they'll be saved to your profile but won't appear on the map.
RevvRadar is currently available only in the United States. The app is not geofenced—U.S. users traveling internationally can still use the app and capture vehicles. However, our content (events, map data) is optimized for the U.S. market. Location data captured anywhere is transmitted to our U.S.-based servers and protected by U.S. privacy laws and the safeguards described below. International data transfers are secured using encryption in transit and at rest.
How We Use Your Location
Precise GPS Coordinates:
- • Vehicle Capture: Tag exact location of vehicles you photograph
 - • Residential Privacy Detection: Automatically filter out home driveways and private neighborhoods
 - • Map Display: Show your current position on the map interface
 - • Nearby Content: Display vehicle sightings and events close to you

City/Region Level Location:
- • Event Discovery: Find car shows, meets, and events in your area
 - • Local Community: Connect with nearby automotive enthusiasts
 - • Content Personalization: Show region-specific content and trends

Background Location (Optional):
- • Event Notifications: Alert you when car events happen near your location
 - • Passive Discovery: Notify about rare vehicle sightings in your area
 - • User Control: You can disable background access in iOS Settings at any time

Background location is never required. All core features work with "While Using App" permission.
Location Data Resolution and Retention
To protect your privacy over time, we automatically reduce the precision of historical location data:
Real-Time Location (Current Session):
Precise GPS coordinates used for active vehicle capture and map navigation. Cleared when you close the app.
Recent History (Last 7 Days):
Precise coordinates retained for your recent vehicle sightings and event check-ins.
Older History (7-30 Days):
Location resolution reduced to street-level (removes precise coordinates, keeps street name).
Archive (30-180 Days):
Location resolution reduced to city-level only (removes street addresses, keeps city/state).
Beyond 180 Days:
Precise location data permanently deleted. Only aggregated, anonymized location trends retained for analytics.
Data Minimization: This automatic resolution reduction follows GDPR data minimization principles and protects your long-term privacy even if you forget to manually delete old data.
Residential Privacy Protection System
We automatically protect residential privacy using our proprietary detection system. If you photograph a vehicle in a residential area, your capture will be filtered from public view to prevent exposing private homes:
What Gets Hidden
- • Private driveways & homes
 - • Residential neighborhoods
 - • Gated communities
 - • Numbered street addresses

What Gets Shown
- • Car dealerships
 - • Car shows & events
 - • Public parking areas
 - • Commercial areas

Our detection system uses geocoding services and machine learning to classify locations. If a vehicle is wrongly classified, you can appeal via in-app reporting.
Your Location Controls
iOS Settings Controls:
- • Never: Location access completely disabled (core features still work, but map-based features unavailable)
 - • While Using App: Location access only when app is open (recommended for most users)
 - • Always: Background location for event notifications (optional, can be disabled anytime)

Access these settings: iOS Settings > Privacy > Location Services > RevvRadar
In-App Location Controls:
- • Location History: View and delete individual vehicle capture locations
 - • Location Visibility: Control whether your sightings show your approximate location to other users
 - • Nearby Notifications: Toggle location-based event alerts on/off

Private Capture Mode (Location Disabled):
You can capture vehicles even with location services disabled. These captures will:
- • Be saved to your private profile and collection
 - • NOT appear on the public map or in location-based feeds
 - • Remain completely private unless you choose to share them
 - • Have no location metadata attached to the photo
 - • Still use AI identification to detect vehicle make/model

Why offer this? We believe you should be able to document your automotive passion anywhere, anytime—even in privacy-sensitive locations like your home or workplace—without compromising your location privacy.
Limited Functionality with Location Disabled:
- • Map-based discovery features will not work
 - • Event discovery limited to manual search only (no "near me" results)
 - • Cannot share captures to public map
 - • Residential privacy protection system not available (no location to check)
 - • You can still view other users' public content

Location Data Sharing
We share your location data only with service providers necessary to operate RevvRadar:
Service Providers with Location Access:
- • Mapping Services: Map display, geocoding, residential area detection
 - • Cloud Infrastructure: Location data storage, event proximity calculations
 - • Advertising Networks (All Tiers): Approximate city-level location for ad targeting (never precise coordinates, reduced for Pro/Premium)

We do not sell your location data. Location information is never shared with advertisers beyond city-level approximation for free tier users who consent to tracking.

You have the right to:
